Croatia and Bosnia II (B+W)

I went to Croatia with Alan and his family in the summer of 1999. Here are some black and white pictures from the trip.

His family is from an island off the coast of a city named Zadar. You need to take a boat. Here is what goes on inside the boat.

Its pretty sweet... We would dive off this wall with the island kids.

They have a well at the house where all the "shower" water comes from. We'd each fill a bucket in the morning and the sun would heat it up.

There was a gnarly full solar eclipse on the second day. I have a better photo in color that I'll post later.

We went to a BBQ with Alan's whole family. I think this lady was a some sort of distant great aunt. She didn't talk or move very fast and nobody talked to her.

We took a bus ride to Sarajevo. The Siege of Sarajevo was the longest siege in modern warfare history and had ended in early '96. I remember there was holes in everything. I remember they were using German Marks for currency and that made it expensive as hell. I also remember the people seemed super happy.

The 12 hour bus ride

These two landmark towers. The one on the left was totally hollowed out (more on those buildings later)

Bullet holes in Disney Characters

Lots of awesome back alleys

Yesterday Alan found my slide carousel with my color pictures I had forgotten about. I shot about 7 rolls of Velvia with my old Yashica point and shoot. Scanned them today and I'll post some later.

Polaroid from today

Just got back from Alan's house. Took this polaroid of him today after the sun went down..

We summited Dirtbag Mountain for the first time. It overlooks the Jersey Turnpike in the Meadowlands. Being up there is a calming experience. People cheer at you from the highway as they speed past. Made some good photos that i'll put up tomorrow.

While I'm at it.. found this picture that the above Alan took of me in Spain 4 years ago. Those planes would fly for a whole minute or more before ditching in the Mediterranean.

Watering gravel and giant baby

Photo from this same trip... I think the place was called Sun City.

and there this bridge with birds underneath and a giant baby lurking in the distance. I saw the baby on the way from the airport and made a big stink of going back to investigate.

look at it:

no advertising or anything!.. anyway.. Alan, Luis, Eden, and I are going up dirtbag mountain tomorrow and I'm gonna get some glorious photos of Jersey.

Teamster Clarke

Clarke had long hair last winter. He wore shades and smoked tons of fags. Luis reminded him constantly that he looked like a Mexican drifter/bandit.

3 pictures of my brother on Easter.

It was nice out

dinnertime stink eye.

100% crop.

Slowly getting the hang of creating fake grain to make digital look more like film. It kills the sharpness but the quality is much nicer.

Clear

Clear shot down 42nd st. Taken last night from Boulevard East in Jersey on the way back to Brooklyn. Kind of shite quality though cause I shot it at iso 3200.

Croatia and Bosnia

While visiting my parents last week I found these two dusty prints in my closet. I'm gonna grab the 88 rolls I shot during that trip when I go home today. That'll cure any boredom next week.
All that effort making those pictures and to only have 7 people see them is a shame.

This was almost 10 years ago and I looked like this.....HA!

Photos of me taken by Alan.

Somewhere in my closet I have a kick ass picture of those two towers behind me taken from a taxi...gotta find it!

Bonneville

These are outtakes from right before and after this picture was taken. Me, Alan, Katelyn, and her friend Kelsey, sat around out in the middle of nowhere till the sun went down. The girls drank whiskey in their homemade dresses. Bonneville, July 2005.

Painting the Olds

This was during the summer of '05 in Salt Lake. Alan came out to visit. Me, him, and Katelyn painted the car with racing stripes to match this plush interior..

Ian hanging his show at Jen Bekman

My friend Ian has his big opening tonight (Friday) at Jen Bekman Gallery. I went past earlier to bother him and take photos. He got the prints back from the framer today at 3 o'clock and was a little bit stressed. He gave me a sneak preview with no one there and the show looks great.

also...Congrats go to Ian for winning a slot in the PDN 30 this year!

New Nylon Tear

Detail

I have a picture in the new Nylon that came out today. Shot it wide open at 1/15 handheld and I was shaking in the cold. I didn't think i'd like it out of focus and blurry but I was wrong.

Berlin

Saw this on the side of the road in Berlin last summer. Pretty gnarly cause there's only one little wire holding those fucking beasts at bay. My mind was blown for the rest of the day.

Patterson Falls

Last winter was colder than this one. Nick told me he saw Patterson Falls frozen over and I didn't really believe him. Me, Nick, and my Uncle Simon drove over and sure enough, there it was...frozen solid. Everything within 50 feet was coated in thick sheets of ice, including reeds of grass the width of corndogs, all banging together and blowing in the wind.

Leaves
