Dusk

I took this while waiting for the train back to Tokyo. The light was nice and the weather was warm.

Sometimes I was getting panicky in Tokyo..there's so many people around all the time. This picture is from a town called Tsujido. Tsujido made me the opposite of panicky. The train station is a mile from the beach and its mostly surf shops and friendly people.

Christmas Eve

Some photos from the train back to my parents house a few days ago.

The blue tint is spooky.

Coffee/Tea

These soda machines are everywhere in Japan. I tried to get a really good shot of an isolated one but nothing doin'...here's an example of an attempt..

Berlin II

Entertainment

This is a drive by photo of the Kino International Theater in the eastern part of Berlin. The Germans renovated the theater in 1990 and it lights up all neon pink at night.

Cold

A couple of photos from a cold location scout day in Berlin.

Some unfrozen water.

Berlin

Here's Luis talking to an art director. The hand in front of his face is bumming me out...

and my auto focus missed its mark at the last second.

This job in Berlin was coooooold.. One day was 5 degrees fahrenheit at noon with no wind! The sun comes up at 8:30 and sets at 3:30.
I knew there had to be something wrong with that city.
Here's a shitty photo I took this morning before getting on the plane.

During my only free time I wanted to reshoot something I saw two years ago but on the half hour walk over my camera froze up and stopped working.

Honorable Mention

I finally decided to enter Jen Bekman's Hey Hot Shots contest this year... and so did everybody else! I was stoked to get an honorable mention and their blog has links to all the photographers websites.

I'll try again in the summer.

Fisherman

I'm off to Berlin in a few hours to work/freeze for a four days. In the meantime here's some photos of a fisherman in Japan. I stood there waiting for this guy to stand up for over an hour.

He only stuck around for a minute or so after standing up and I shot a few frames before he bailed.

Back in a week.

Missed opportunity

I was across the school yard when these kids rolled out the tire. I made my way over in time to shoot three frames before they stopped... Mediocre at best:

Visual slop.

Earlier in the week something else even more epic (one of those universe aligning moments that comes around every 2 or 3 years) happened and I missed that too! Yeesh, two great photos missed.

Watching Japanese kids play baseball was cool. They have all these weird pregame traditions- warm ups where they yell a lot and drink water in unison.

A 14 hour time difference takes some getting used to.

Mt. Fuji

Seeing Mt. Fuji was cool. This crappy photo is the only clear shot I had cause most of the time the mountain was covered in clouds or pollution.

We took the Shinkansen high speed train from Osaka to Tokyo. I looked it up...its the busiest train line in the world. These Shinkansen trains leave every three minutes and in 2003 they averaged a 6 second delay for the year... having said that...

..check out around the 50 second mark of this video (when stuff gets in the foreground) to see what 200+ mph on land looks like.

Snaps

Took a long flight from Amsterdam to Osaka.

Somewhere over Siberia

A view of Osaka from my hotel window.

Detail

I watched these awesome kids play baseball down near the beach one day. Only shot 3 frames with the digital so they'll be more later after I scan the film.

I spent a lot of time nerding out in used camera stores.

A street cast kid from Tokyo.

The Akihabara JR train platform as seen from my hotel in Tokyo. The Japanese trains are awesome and come every couple of minutes.

More later.

Wires

I didn't know projects had been done on the telephone wires of Tokyo.. Oh well.. I shot a good one at night that I'll put in the final anyway. Here's an outtake.

There's too many earthquakes and the city was poorly planned so now there's all these gnarly configurations happening above your head.

Tokyo

I'm back a little early from my trip. There was a schedule mishap that left me with 7 days off between jobs in Tokyo....good thing I brought 50 rolls of film and my Mamiya. I purchased a shitty tripod and went back to explore all the things that interested me on my first two visits but didn't have time to shoot.

I have a few digital snaps that I'll put up soon. I put that camera away after the first couple of days and instead shot the rest on film. I'm trying to get them up on the website by the end of the year.
