Re-worked

Two old photos. I think I posted this elephant photo before but I reworked the shitty color again. Its still kind of shitty and the picture in my mind of what this was is way better than what this is.


Anyways.. this hard drive with everything from pre-2008 is going in the closet. I'll do a few more posts of some old reworked photos just for the hell of it.

This was on my old website for a minute. Poor little fella.

Easier said..

I had a double hernia operation in Canada. All good now. Check out this poster.. man did it hurt to sit up..


I read about Shouldice Hospital, and after getting an $18000 quote in Jersey, decided to fly up and book in there instead. Shouldice only fixes hernias, looks like a mansion, cost $3500, and is considered the best in the world. Their operations fail 1% of the time while every other hospitals' failure rate is between 10-15%

I was all ready to shoot a full on project about the experience but there was a misunderstanding and my level of photo clearance got knocked down a few pegs. Between that and the pain, I only managed to shoot six rolls. More later. Maybe an edited mini project if the scans are okay.

Gone for a week

Going to Canada..I'll try and come back with some good photos.

In the meantime.. Here are some outtakes from a shoot I did last spring. I realized then and there that I'm no good at/don't like building up and constructing a photo. I really like this blown out frame though..

Broken camera

My camera broke..my dumb ass left it on an applebox in Berlin and it dun froze up on me.


I don't have bottomless funds for film and processing so this blog might be a little slow for the next 6-8 weeks while the digi gets fixed.

Racer

The bike on the left was the loudest machine of the week. That banding in the sky is some weird atmospheric effect that happens out on the salt. I have no idea what causes it but it was driving me mental doing these scans.

Dusk

I took this while waiting for the train back to Tokyo. The light was nice and the weather was warm.


Sometimes I was getting panicky in Tokyo..there's so many people around all the time. This picture is from a town called Tsujido. Tsujido made me the opposite of panicky. The train station is a mile from the beach and its mostly surf shops and friendly people.

This is a drive by photo of the Kino International Theater in the eastern part of Berlin. The Germans renovated the theater in 1990 and it lights up all neon pink at night.

This job in Berlin was coooooold.. One day was 5 degrees fahrenheit at noon with no wind! The sun comes up at 8:30 and sets at 3:30.

I knew there had to be something wrong with that city.

Here's a shitty photo I took this morning before getting on the plane.


During my only free time I wanted to reshoot something I saw two years ago but on the half hour walk over my camera froze up and stopped working.

I finally decided to enter Jen Bekman's Hey Hot Shots contest this year... and so did everybody else! I was stoked to get an honorable mention and their blog has links to all the photographers websites.


I'll try again in the summer.

Fisherman

I'm off to Berlin in a few hours to work/freeze for a four days. In the meantime here's some photos of a fisherman in Japan. I stood there waiting for this guy to stand up for over an hour.


He only stuck around for a minute or so after standing up and I shot a few frames before he bailed.

Missed opportunity

I was across the school yard when these kids rolled out the tire. I made my way over in time to shoot three frames before they stopped... Mediocre at best:


Visual slop.

Earlier in the week something else even more epic (one of those universe aligning moments that comes around every 2 or 3 years) happened and I missed that too! Yeesh, two great photos missed.

Watching Japanese kids play baseball was cool. They have all these weird pregame traditions- warm ups where they yell a lot and drink water in unison.

Jet lag

A 14 hour time difference takes some getting used to.
