Blue eyes

Today I went to shoot some of Esao's new paintings...Once that was done we laughed our asses off taking these dumb photos..

None of these eye shots are amped up in any way besides some burns and dodges. I looked it up..that blue reflection is a second layer in front of the retina. Small animals have 'em to help see in the dark.

cool huh?

We were trying to get a picture of him catching some food.

Missed this one..

Good 'ol Soybean..

He's the best!

Detail

Here's a shiny detail from the only portrait in a group of Vegas photos that I'm trying to finish.

This guy was awesome. More later..

Flak Photo

Stoked to be featured on Flak Photo today. If you don't already have this site bookmarked you should check it out. Andy Adams has been posting sick photos since 2006 and the archive's and links are ridiculous.

A lot of the sites and photographers I look at today came from the links on Flak.
Here's the 16x20 version of my photo...

I'm a total luddite and still haven't jumped on facebook.. but Andy has..and twitter.
I'll always be grateful to him.. some of my first exposure on the internet came from this post back in 2008.

Another version of a family getting worked over

Taken right as the wind started kicking up.

Landings I

I knew I wouldn't be using many landing photos in the final project but its pretty impressive and I shot almost all of them just for the hell of it.

Here's some landing outtakes.. this Air France Airbus a340 is the second biggest plane. I saw five of them that week.

This 747 is the biggest. There were only 3 of these landing that week. This is the same photo everyone takes and shows up on google images a trillion times.

This video is what I was hoping to see, which is a rare tail wind landing. They have to come in lower than normal and use every inch of runway.

Another MD80 landing on a different, more cloudy day.

A not super original night landing photo

I'm going to Canada tomorrow. More updates next week.

Canyon

A grand canyon

My Dad and I saw people rafting down this river in 2007 and now I think about it all the time.

Vegas I

Some random snaps from Vegas a few days ago. This is the first time I've ever walked around in Las Vegas. It's awesome.

My favorite neon sign at the neon sign graveyard.

A circle K parking lot at night.

Afternoon light bouncing off the trump casino and hitting a wall..

..and hitting a street corner.

We all stayed at the Wynn which was nice. The rooms have floor to ceiling windows. Here's my buddy Sam on the phone in his room.

View from the room. The windows are covered in a (heat resistant?) coating that makes the colors look weird.

I went to the Stratosphere twice.

Night time view of the strip.

Cool old couple during the elevator ride down.

The film stuff came out nice. I'll get them up in a few weeks.

Plane watchers II

Another outtake. The guy with the mic was from a TV show in Brazil.

Print Sale II

Another print is up on 20x200 today.

Again, Jen was very complimentary in the announcement.

Thanks again to Jen and Sara and everybody else at 20x200...and thanks to everybody who bought my last two prints! The sales fully funded my trip and equipment and film for St. Maarten.

The proofs came out way better than I expected..stoked!

Plane watchers

This is the kind of ugly light I had for 4 of the 6 days shooting down in St. Maarten. Flat and grey and super bright.

Pain in the ass..

Back from Vegas

Just got back from Vegas a couple of hours ago. I've been there a bunch of times but always for work. This time around though there was a scheduling snafu and I got 2 days off. Full tourist mode..

I shot a bunch of random stuff on film that I'll try and get done this week. Here's a couple of quick jpegs.

They have a decelerator ride. You jump in a freefall from the 108th floor and slow down right before hitting the ground.

More later.

Maho Beach

Another installment of my recreation project is up on the website.

This time I went to the widely photographed Maho beach in St. Maarten.
Shooting this project was fun and hot and very painful.

The color and saturation on some might be a little wack. I haven't checked them on other monitors yet.. still using a janky 17" imac for website stuff. I'm leaving town in two days and wanted to get 'em up already.

update...leaving tomorrow (fri) for Vegas..check out the heat!

Back on Wednesday.

Outtakes I

These are both kinda weak but I don't want to put up my favorite outtakes till this stuff is finished.

.. and blogger been bumming me out lately.
Any time you have a subtle, even tone, like the sky above, its compresses into a crunchy looking mess.

Alan with Alan with target

My buddy Alan came by for dinner tonight.

I took a quick snap of him holding the first test of a print that I made/sold last week.

Range

My brother and I went to the driving range last night. Its right on the river and there was a nice breeze.

We both walked right past a crime scene where some crazy guy stabbed 4 people 2 hours earlier in front of the Apple store. There was some police tape and things were a little messed up but after reading the gnarly account on the Gothamist its hard to believe how quick things went back to normal.

Anywho, here's a distorted, wide angle, tip-toed view from the side trying to capture the impact.

No dice.

July 4th part 3

Some photos from last Sunday

People gathering before sundown.

I like this one.

I don't know if these black and whites work as well.

Blown II

A corner detail that I like from an image that's just not working.

Hopefully I can get this new project up by next week sometime...taking longer than I thought.

July 4th part 2

This was the scene post fireworks last night. You can see the flares still raging up in the woods.

I made the jpeg a little bigger in the hopes that blogger wouldn't crunch it up (which kind of helps but not really...) This was about a minute exposure with a flash pop at the end.

More from England

Here's my Grandpa's bathroom mirror and shaver..

and here's his scale.

My dad as a baby.

Now I know where I got my perma-scowl.

The only semi-decent photo from the train ride.
